201,168. K³bler, C. July 22, 1922, [Convention date]. Adding and subtracting apparatus for British weights and other non-uniform systems. - In apparatus such as that described in Specification 148,455 and 172,909, wherein amounts are added or subtracted by sliding numbered rack-bars, transfer across more than two adjacent columns may be effected by means of a Z-shaped slot i<1> in conjunction with teeth i<5> formed on the intermediate rack-bar. Thus in the case of an apparatus for calculating in British weights, the necessity of transfer from the lbs. is indicated by a signal appearing in the tens of lbs. window and the transfer is performed by passing the stylus along the whole length of the. slot i<1>, this movement resulting in adding 2 to the units of lbs., shifting the tens of lbs. bar up 3 places, and adding 1 to the qrs. column.
