Abstract
A process for exhaust dyeing cellulose fibres or mixtures thereof with synthetic fibres, preferably polyester fibres, comprises introducing into a tank the fibres in rope form in conjunction with a hot aqueous solution containing at least one vat dyestuff in reduced form, sodium hydroxide, sodium dithionite and, optionally, an electrolyte, treating the fibres with the solution for a period of from 5 seconds to 10 minutes, preferably from 1 to 5 minutes, at a temperature of from 60 DEG to 100 DEG , preferably from 80 DEG to 98 DEG C, with exclusion of atmospheric oxygen, and subsequently subjecting the fibres to a reoxidation treatment to form the water-insoluble vat dyestuff, and to an after-treatment. The process avoids such disadvantages as atmospheric oxidation problems, foulard roll staining and insufficient dyestuff penetration.
