Abstract

Apparatus for filling containers with articles 14 comprises a feed conveyor 10 of slats (16) having article receiving apertures (18), which is supplied with articles from a chute 12 or a vibratory hopper (50), a tray 20 below the slats preventing articles falling through until a discharge point is reached where the tray terminates to allow articles to fall into a transverse line of hoppers 22 below the conveyor, and a gate 24 preventing the articles from leaving the hoppers until a line of empty cans 38 on a second transverse conveyor 28 are in position therebelow. A stop (76) or (75) across the end of the hopper (50) prevents excess articles entering the feed conveyor. A rotary brush or roller 40 clears any surplus articles from the feed conveyor 10. <IMAGE>
