Abstract

A Chinese lantern comprises an envelope 2, a means of rendering the lantern lighter than the volume of air that it displaces, an illumination means, and a display 1 which in use is rendered visible by the illumination means. The illumination means may be an electric light and battery unit or may comprise chemical means. The lantern may be biodegradable.
