Abstract

Amine phosphate salts or mixtures comprising amine phosphate salts and phosphoramides are prepared by reacting a triaryl phosphate (the aryl groups optionally being substituted) with a primary or secondary aliphatic amine in the presence of a boron- containing catalyst which is boric acid, a trialkyl borate or boron trifluoride. The reaction products are useful as lubricating oil additives and as biocides.
