Abstract
Pelletized raw material is supplied to a moving grate (3) that passes through a drying chamber (4), a dehydrating chamber (5), a preheating chamber (6) and then into a kiln (7) for firing. The kiln exhaust gases pass to the preheating chamber and are later discharged via filters (17, 18) to a chimney (21). Agglomerates (b) are separated from pellets (a) discharged from the kiln. The pellets (a) may be oxidised pellets or reduced pellets according to conditions in the kiln. Means are provided for recovering oxidised pellets along a route which includes coolers (10) and (33). A separate route (9, 28) and the cooler (29) is provided for recovery of reduced pellets. Means are provided for selecting which route is to be taken according to which type of pellets is being produced. <IMAGE>
