Abstract

Lube base stock oil of pour point -25 DEG F to +30 DEG F and excellent stability is produced from a deasphalted short residium fraction by solvent refining to remove aromatic hydrocarbons, catalytic dewaxing over a shape selective zeolite catalyst having a silica/alumina ratio of at least 12 such as zeolite ZSM-5 and hydrotreating the dewaxed oil at 425-600 DEG F using a catalyst having a non-acidic support, such as cobalt molybdate or nickel molybdate on alumina.
