Abstract

Distribution system for feeding foodstuffs, sweets or other similar material to a number of weigher packer units or other outlets according to demand without re-circulation or long- term storage utilises a series of main vibratory conveyors 10-13 to carry the material along a main feed path, each outlet 31-38 being fed by a separate and independently driven branch conveyor 15-22 whose conveying surfaces bridge gaps between the main conveyors but are not vibrated thereby. When the branch conveyors are inoperative the main flow is carried across their surfaces by the impetus imparted by the associated main conveyor. On demand from the associated outlet the branch conveyors are operated to divert all or part of the main flow laterally from the main feed path. The conveyors are controlled on a demand basis by transducer devices 40-46 acting as level probes positioned along the main feed path. The branch conveyors may be vibratory or endless belt conveyors. <IMAGE>
