Abstract

An antistatic agent for polymers comprises, a sulfobetaine group- containing olefin copolymer. The copolymer has a number average molecular weight of from 500 to 100,000 and comprises a major proportion of C2-6 alpha olefin units and a minor proportion of units derived from a suitable comonomer. A sulfobetaine group is chemically bound to the units derived from the comonomer, for example by reaction of amine groups with a sultone.
