Abstract

A fluid composition and method for the eradication or control of arthropods is disclosed. The composition is formed at point of use by mixing an emulsion of at least one siloxane compound dispersed in a water continuous phase and a surfactant. The surfactant acts to demulsify the siloxane compound, thereby enabling active siloxanes in the emulsion to coat the arthropods and their ova on contact. Preferably, the emulsion comprises a non-volatile siloxane compound, for example dimethicone or dimethiconol having a viscosity of at least 50 centistokes. The composition is particularly effective in eradicating or controlling ectoparasites, especially but not exclusively fleas, mites, wood-destroying beetles and stored grain pests.
