Abstract

A plastics or rubber layer or formation is applied to the outer periphery of a metal wheel rim 10 by injection moulding into a cavity deformed by the rim and surrounding mould parts 19, 20, 26, 26'. In the case of a wire wheel the injected material seals the spoke holes. Bead retention grooves or ribs can be formed in the thickness of the plastics layer in the bead seat regions of the rim. Alternatively a circumferential bead retention rib can be provided on a bead seat by injection moulding into a recess in the metal rim so that the rib is keyed against axial displacement. <IMAGE>
