Abstract

A jack includes a cushioned piston 2 having a buffer ring 6 which cooperates, at the end of the stroke, with a bore 30 in the end 3 of the jack cylinder 10 to create a buffer chamber 20, a valve 7 located in the ring 6 providing communication between the bore 30 and the buffer chamber 20 when the bore 30 is pressurized thereby to start the jack rapidly, said valve preventing communication between the buffer chamber and the bore 30 when the pressure rises in the buffer chamber at the end of the piston stroke. <IMAGE>
