Abstract

A process for the manufacture of azo dyestuffs of the formula: A-N=N-E<+> X<(-)> wherein A is the residue of a carbocyclic aromatic amine, E is the residue of a p-coupling aromatic amine having a pendant optionally substituted cationic pyridinium group and X is an anion which comprises mixing together and reacting in aqueous acidic medium a carbocyclic aromatic amine ANH2, a p-coupling aromatic amine having a pendant optionally substituted cationic pyridinium group and a diazotising agent.
