Abstract

Apparatus for mounting a wheel chair in a motor vehicle (10) comprises a support securable to the floor of the vehicle (10) adjacent to a door opening (11) in the body thereof, and a tiltable and swivellable platform (26) mounted on the support, the arrangement being such that the platform (26) can be swung outward through the door opening (11) and an extension (29) thereof moved outwardly to form with the platform (26) a ramp up which a wheel chair with an occupant can be driven or manoeuvred backwards. When the wheel chair reaches the point of balance, at which the platform (26) is tiltable, the platform (26) takes up a generally horizontal position whereupon after retraction of the extension (29), the platform (26) with the wheel chair can be rotated to take up a position within the vehicle (10) appropriate for driving the vehicle (10) the wheel chair being secured on the platform (26) and the platform (26) being secured on the support. <IMAGE>
