Abstract

A winch mechanism includes a first 402 and a second 404 drum each having multiple grooves 404a, 402a therein. A frame supports the first drum spaced from the second drum with the axis of rotation of the first drum canted relative to the rotational axis of the second drum such that the grooves at the top of the first drum are substantially aligned with corresponding grooves at the top of the second drum and the grooves at the bottom of the first drum are substantially aligned with grooves adjacent to the corresponding grooves at the bottom of the second drum. A cable 200 is alternately wrapped between the grooves of the first and second drums with at least one of the drums being driven to draw in and feed out the cable. <IMAGE>
