Abstract

An electrolytic reduction cell for the production of aluminium has current collector bars running across the floor of the cell e.g. within grooves in carbon blocks 1 unitarily or in separate sections 2. Deformation of the molten metal/electrolytic bath interface is reduced by leading current out of the collector bars or bar sections at positions remote from their ends preferably at mid-points by connector bars 4, 5 connected to said positions, to connect line conductors 3. <IMAGE>
