Abstract
A process for treatment of raw wastewaters to remove impurities and effect nitrification with unprecedented efficiency by means of a biological aeration system (3) containing active carbon and biomass, wherein a portion of the carbon and biomass separated (4) from the purified water (5) is recycled and the remainder is subsequently subjected to wet oxidation under selected conditions (10) and the resulting oxidized slurry recycled to the biotreatment zone for the treatment of additional wastewater. <IMAGE>
