Abstract

A microwave oven has a rotating microwave radiator 14 as well as radiant resistance heating elements in an oven enclosure. Energy from a magnetron is coupled via a waveguide to a coaxial line with a fixed outer conductor 26 and a rotating inner conductor 22 which passes through a plenum 28 in the radiator to a wall 30 containing ports 32 spaced different distances from the axis of rotation and from which energy launches into the oven parallel to this axis. The plenum is shaped to form waveguides leading to the ports and by suitable dimensioning these and the first mentioned waveguide, and by matching the waveguide/ coaxial line transitions, it is possible to couple the magnetron closely to the enclosure without substantial reflection of energy back to the magnetron and with a steady standing wave ratio on the coaxial line. <IMAGE>
