Abstract

Oil-soluble nitrogen-containing dispersing agents suitable for use as lubricating oil additives are made by reacting a polyolefin-substituted succinic acid or anhydride with an amino compound having the formula:- NH2.(CH2)2[NH.CH 2.CH(R).CH2]xNH 2 or NH2.[CH2.CH(R).CH2.NH] y(CH2)2 [NH.CH2CH(R).CH2]zNH 2 in which formulae x, y and z are integers and R is either a hydrogen atom or a methyl radical. Amines used in Examples are NH2(CH2)2NH(CH 2)3NH2 and NH2(CH2)3NH(CH 2)2NH(CH2)3 NH2. l
