Abstract

The strainer includes a hollow body 1 and an inlet sieve 3. The inlet sieve is fixed by its upper part in a first plate 4 and by its lower part in a second plate 5 and the sieve is arranged to be slidable in the hollow body. A circular ring 7 serves as a stop for the first plate and forms a guideway for axial movement of the sieve. When the pump is not working, the sieve falls and the first plate 4 rests on ring 7 to seal the suction pipe inlet. Upon operation of the pump, sieve 3 is forced upwards, e.g. to an extent controlled by a guide ring 6 which may carry a sieve cleaning element 7, allowing flow into the suction pipe via the sieve. Vanes may be mounted within the sieve to give it rotational motion upon flow of liquid therethrough enabling cleaning of the sieve outer surface by fixed brushes. <IMAGE>
