Abstract

A writing aid comprises a panel 12 having a steel bar 14 located therein with one end level with the surface of the panel 12. A coil 16 is disposed round the bar 14 for inducing a magnetic field therein. The panel is used with a writing implement incorporating magnetic material so that, during writing, a positive effort is needed to lift the point of the writing implement away from the paper and movement of the writing implement in directions parallel to the plane of the paper is resisted by the magnetic shear force so that the writing implement feels as if it were being moved through a viscous liquid, thereby damping undesired random movement. <IMAGE>
