Abstract

The invention relates to a method for protecting a planographic printing plate during storage and handling. The protective coating comprises a cohesive, manually strippable polymeric material, which is preferably polyvinyl chloride. In the preferred embodiment, a planographic printing plate is passed through a solution of polyvinyl chloride in ethyl acetate and a coating of from 1 to 3 mils in thickness is deposited on the light- sensitive surface of the printing plate.
