Abstract
A device for generating an electro- magnetic rotary field, within the backing roller track of a continuous casting apparatus for agitating the molten core of the casting, comprises poles R,S,T attached to a common magnet yoke 1 and insertable between consecutive backing rollers 2,2<1>, e.g. by hydraulic cylinders 4. The rollers located between the poles and a housing 5 are made of non-magnetic materials such as steel. The device has particular application in the casting of steel slabs. <IMAGE>
