Abstract

In a vacuum packaging method, comprising vacuum and heat-shaping a laminated film in a mould, applying a box film over an article or commodity received in the shaped laminated film, and evacuating the base film/shaped film interspace prior to releasing vacuum in the mould to form a package, the laminated film is composed of (1) at least one plastically deformable layer of a synthetic resin having a yield stress of more than 50 kg/cm<2> at a temperature of 23 DEG C. and an elongation at the elastic limit (which term is defined) of less than 30 percent at a temperature of 50 DEG to 180 DEG C and (2) at least one elastic layer of a synthetic resin having an elongation at the elastic limit of more than 40 per cent at a shaping temperature of 50 DEG to 180 DEG C. The use of this laminated material in vacuum packaging provides vacuum tight packages with reduced residual stress in the packaging material.
