Abstract

The brake drum 26 has two different internal diameters 25,27 and two separate pairs of brake shoes 11,12 (and 58,59 not shown) each acting on one internal diameter. A single backing plate 2 as best shown in Fig. 6, carries projections 8,9 serving as anchorages for the pivot pins 10 of shoes 11,12 as well as a projection 49 serving as the anchorage for the common pivot pin of shoes 58,59. A further projection 50 accommodates the cam shaft 64 (Fig. 2) for operating the latter shoes. Projections 8,9 lie adjacent one another on a circle of greater diameter than that passing through projections 49,50. Shoes 11,12 are preferably hydraulically operated. <IMAGE>
