Abstract

In melt-spinning of a self- crimping yarn, the thickness of the molten stream is small as compared to the width of that portion exposed to the quenching medium. This increases the crimping effect. The stream has a first fin-like portion 28 with a first side 30 exposed to the quenching medium and a second portion 34 joined to an intermediate region 36 of the opposite side 36 of portion 28 of width 38 lesser than 32 shielded from the quenching medium. The stream thickness is less than 70% of the width of the exposed side of the first portion. The stream may be of polyester material. <IMAGE>
