Abstract

For applications such as use in mining, electrical measuring instruments are usually of the moving coil type. Hitherto known digital display instruments have not been suitable because they are not rugged enough and also they require a power supply. In mines, only certain kinds of power supply may be used for safety reasons. The invention provides a digital display instrument comprising two dust-tight and splash-proof casings 1 and 2 in one of which is encapsulated a digital display measuring instrument, the casing having a window 14 through which the display 5 can be viewed, and in the other of which there is encapsulated a "safe" power pack comprising rechargeable storage cells 23 and voltage and current limiting components, the two casings being snap-fitted together with plug and socket members 25 and 27 to provide electrical connection between the power pack and the instrument. <IMAGE>
