Abstract

In the manufacture of metal powder by the water atomization of liquid metal, the resulting slurry of powder and water is pumped into a settling tank having a separate receptacle 3 constituting the bottom of the tank. A filter screen 10 is provided in the receptacle and the powder settles on to the filter screen. Supernatent water is drained from the tank, and the receptacle is then removed from the upper part of the tank and a cover 15 is fitted to the receptacle. Air, which can be heated, is forced into the receptacle to force remaining water down through and out of the settled powder. <IMAGE>
