Abstract

A process for the disposal of harmful waste materials, such as radioactive materials, consists of drilling a hole 6 in a tectonic oceanic plateau 1 which is in the process of moving under an adjacent tectonic continental plateau 2 and placing the material in the hole 6. Due to the movement of the oceanic plateau 1, the material becomes in time completely covered by the continental plateau 2 and gradually moves deeper into the earth's crust. The hole 6 is preferably sunk from a drill ship 5 in the oceanic plateau 1 near the edge 3 of the continental plateau 2. <IMAGE>
