Abstract
A method of launching a missile from an aircraft or vehicle which has an optical system which takes in a view of the target area, comprising scanning the view and correlating a possible target in the view with stored images of sample targets in order to identify the nature and position of the target in the view. If the target in the view corresponds with a sample target then the seeking head of the missile is aligned with the target and thereafter the missile is launched. Where there is more than one missile and the scanning reveals several targets then it is possible to align and launch several missiles in a short time one at each target.
