Abstract

A sub-calibre rifle cartridge having a drive base 4 a projectile 1 and a plastics jacket 2 enclosing the projectile with a number of longitudinal preselected fracture lines 2b. The jacket being arranged to start to spread open at the nose on firing and during travel along the barrel and to spread fully open after leaving the muzzle. Connection with the drive base being by an interlocking arrangement 6 which disconnects when the segments of the jacket have spread 30 DEG . Torque is transmitted to the projectile from the base by engagement of a tang 4d in a slot 1a. <IMAGE>
