Abstract

The outlet of a hopper 11 of a larry car for charging a coke oven is provided with a sliding selector plate 21 (Figure 2) which serves to either obturate the outlet or position a first or a second aperture 23 or 25, of different areas, in register with the outlet. By selecting the aperture an approximately equal discharge rate can be obtained with dry, free flowing, coal particles or with wet, agglomerating, coal particles when charging a coke oven. <IMAGE>
