Abstract

An antihalation layer is described which comprises a mixture of a pyrazolone dye of formula I and a bis- pyridone dye of formula II in a gelatin binder. The formulae are:- <IMAGE> where the meanings of the pendant groups in the formulae are defined in the text of the specification. The advantage of the use of this dye combination is that it absorbs light over most of the region of the visible spectrum and that the substantivity of one of the dyes is greatly enhanced in the presence of the other.
