Abstract

A process and apparatus for producing fancy or effect yarns of the slub or flake type using a self- twist spinning machine as a basic yarn spinning mechanism, the process including the steps of securely attaching the slubs or flakes within the body of the yarn at a spinning point by both singles strand twist or by plying twist between two or more strands and injecting slubs or flakes into one or both of the individual strands of the self-twist yarn. The effect material can be a normal, level worsted or semi-worsted roving, a slubbing manufactured on the woollen system, or a yarn which is designed to be weak enough to break under normal roller-drafting forces. Generally the effect material, though fed separately from the ground rovings to the drafting system, is arranged to merge and combine with a ground roving during its passage through a drafting system.
