Abstract
d,1-1-(2-Hydroxyethyl)-4-phenyl- imidazolidine-2-thione of formula: <IMAGE> which is a useful intermediate in the production of tetramisole and pharmacologically acceptable acid addition salts therefrom by, for example, a cyclodehydration reaction, is produced in a one-step reaction from d,1- alpha -(2-hydroxyethylaminomethyl) -benzylamine by reaction thereof with a compound having the general formula: <IMAGE> wherein either R1 and R2 are identical and both represent chlorine or differ with R1 denoting an alkoxy radical containing from 1 to 4 carbon atoms and R2 denoting SM wherein M represents a monovalent cation, especially sodium or potassium.
