Abstract

A pipe fitting 10 for connection to a polymeric pipe 11 comprising two body parts which can for example be screwed together axially to load a locking ring 34 and axially compress a sealing ring 46 which engages the pipe. The locking ring includes a plurality of radial fingers 37 connected by membranes (40) and the arrangement is that the membranes yield to allow radial inward movement of the fingers to grip the pipe only after the sealing ring has been compressed into axial sealing engagement with the pipe. The sealing ring preferably is located in a groove designed to hold the sealing ring in position even in the event of slackening of the body parts with the passage of time. <IMAGE>
