Abstract

An internal shoe-drum brake has an actuator between one pair of shoe ends, and an adjuster 9 between the other pair, and a thrust-transmitting mechanism 12 mounted on one or both shoes. The mechanism 12 transmits thrust from the actuated shoe end to the opposite end, so that the shoe acts as a leading shoe, and comprises two bell-crank levers 13, 14 mounted on the shoe, with their outer arms 16, 17 co-operating with abutment faces 11, 6 on the adjuster 9 and actuator 5, and a strut 15 engaging between their inner arms. One of the levers 16 acts on the abutment face 6 through an adjuster screw 18, adjustable to compensate for differential wear of the friction linings 3. To prevent the adjuster screw 18 indending the abutment face, which may impede relative sliding movement between them, and reduce braking efficiency, a thrust-transmitting bearing pad is interposed between the adjuster screw 18 and the abutment face 6 on which it acts. <IMAGE>
