Abstract

To prevent collisions with a floating object, e.g. an iceberg, an articulated column is adapted to be removed from the path of the object. Various embodiments are described which include a telescopic column which may be collapsed to allow the object to pass over and columns which are detachable from their bases and towed out of the way. In these latter embodiments, the columns may be telescopic or comprise two hinged sections relatively pivotable about a horizontal axis or are slidable within a sleeve of a float to reduce their draft. <IMAGE>
