Abstract

A method of producing membranes for ultrafiltration having a large ultrafiltration rate for a protein solution, such as 30 to 150 m//m<2>.hr.mmHg for an albumin solution, and a large protein rejection rate, such as 90 to 100% for albumin, comprises extruding, from a ring-form spinning nozzle, a spinning solution containing (1) a cellulose ester in an amount of more than 35% to 55% by weight based on the weight of the solvent for the cellulose ester, (2) at least one chloride, nitrate, bromide or iodide of a monovalent or divalent metal in an amount of 20 to 200% by weight based on the weight of the cellulose ester, and optionally (3) as auxiliary solvent, a saturated cyclic monohydric alcohols having 5 to 10 carbon atoms in an amount of 0 to 80% by weight based on the weight of the solvent for the cellulose ester, while simultaneously extruding an internal coagulating liquid capable of coagulating the spinning solution, from the center of the ring-form spinning nozzle, and after allowing the spinning solution and the internal coagulating liquid to fall from the spinning nozzle into a spaced coagulation bath, coagulating the spinning solution in the coagulation bath and extracting the metal salt.
