Abstract
A method of starting-up a fluidised combustion bed (51) consists in passing a hot gas downwardly through the bed when unfluidised thereby to reduce the heat extraction during start-up. Once the temperature of the bed has reached an acceptable level, fluidisation can commence with addition of fuel to be consumed in the bed. <IMAGE>
