Abstract

For centrifugally spinning fibres from thin films of fibre-forming liquids, including solutions or dispersions of thermoplastics, thermosetting resins, thermoplastic melts, inorganic salt solutions, the liquid to be spun is supplied, e.g. by pipes 1,3, to at least one rotating annular reservoir 6 having an outwardly extending upper and/or lower weir 7, and is caused to flow outwardly over the said weir(s) and to be spun outwardly therefrom in the form of fibres. The invention makes it possible to control the production of spun fibres, so that the bulk of the fibres are individual fibres of length and diameter within desired ranges, without substantial amounts of shot. <IMAGE>
