Abstract

Metal strip is manufactured by feeding a cutting tool (II) continuously into the periphery of a rotating workpiece (8) to produce a continuous length of strip peeled from the workpiece periphery. The peeled strip is collected around the periphery of a rotating coiler (22) and a positive level of tension is produced in the strip by causing it to engage frictionally a rotatable pulley or drum (21), or to pass through the nip of a pair of pinch rolls, located in the path of the strip as it passes between the workpiece and the coiler. <IMAGE>
