Abstract
To prevent the formation of ice upon a helicopter rotor blade and facilitate the shedding of ice formed thereon, an electrical heater is provided along the stagnation zone at the leading edge of the rotor blade, the surface 12 of the blade rearward of the stagnation zone having a coating of paste having a low adhesion for ice. In use, an area of the leading edge of the blade is maintained at a deicing temperature by the electrical heater. Ice which forms as a result of water run back from this area or which forms directly is shed by the paste. <IMAGE>
