Abstract

200,109. Fried, L. June 30, 1922, [Convention date]. Guarding against unauthorized use. -A cancelling member is adapted to be moved across the members on a licence plate without obscuring them and is then locked against movement. In one form, Figs. 1 and 3, the licence plate 12 is arranged against the back of a casing 11 with a rectangular front opening, and lazy-tongs 14 are adapted to be extended across the opening. A lock 18 holds the lazytongs in the extended position. When withdrawn into the recess 15 in the end of the casing, the lazy-tongs are held by a catch 20 engaging a member 22 on the casing. Handles 19, projecting through the bottom of the casing, facilitate operation of the lazy tongs. The ends of the end members 14<1>, 14<11> of the lazy-tongs may be connected by springs tending to extend the mechanism while a positive spring-controlled pawl may hold it in the inoperative position. In the modification shown in Fig. 4, the cancelling member consists of two horizontal bars 23, 24 which slide vertically on guides 25, 26 and are held in the raised position by a lock 18, A single bar may be used and the bars may be raised by springs and held down by catches.
