Abstract

A process for the recovery of alumina values from silicate minerals of the clay and shale type by treatment with strong, hot sulphuric acid liquors is improved by the addition of 1-50 gms/litre of fluoride, preferably in the form of hydrofluosilic acid to increase the rate of solubilisation of the alumina values.
