Abstract

The invention provides an improved apparatus whereby elongated work pieces 11 lying transversely on parallel support members 26 can be raised therefrom and transferred vertically and horizontally to a second location 28. A number of arms 12 on a horizontally movable carriage 20 have hook-shaped ends 16 engageable under the work piece when the arms are rotated by means 19 about fulcrums 13. Then the arms 12 are lifted by means 22 substantially without altering their vertical attitudes because of the parallelogram linkage represented by pivot points 13, 15, 21, 18 and carried by the carriage 20 to the new location 28. A lifting arm 29 can be used further to raise the work piece 11. <IMAGE>
