Abstract
A device for treating a fluid, in particular a supported catalyst for motor vehicle exhaust gas purification. The device comprises a container containing one or more short helically wound or other open work three dimensionally configured lengths of wire 16, 17 each forming a substrate of which adjacent parts are not in contact and the surface of which comprises a solid surface coating for interaction with the fluid. For catalysis the coating is a catalytically active material. <IMAGE>
