Abstract

A valve casing (1) in one piece with two aligned connecting channels (17, 18) has two spaces (4, 5) each connected with a respective one of the two connecting channels and a partition (6) located between the two spaces (4, 5) on the longitudinal axis of the connecting channels (17, 18) and which carries a valve seat (8). The two spaces (4, 5) are closable by respective covers (9, 10) fitted to the valve casing (1) coaxially with respect to the valve seat (8) and said spaces (4, 5) have a frusto- conical shape and are staggered eccentrically with respect to the valve seat (8), to one another and to the connecting channels (17, 18) issuing into them. Each space (4, 5) further has a respective crescent-shaped depression (13, 14) in its base surface in the area into which issues the associated connecting channel (17, 18). <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Valve casing This invention relates to a one-piece valve casing of the type having two aligned connecting channels, two spaces each connected with a respective one of the two connecting channels and a partition located between the two spaces on the longitudinal axis of the connecting channels and which carries a valve seat, the two spaces being closable by respective covers fitted to the valve casing coaxially with respect to the valve seat.
As the two lateral casing covers of said valve casing are arranged coaxially to the valve seat, the casing cover with the valve spindle bearing can be arranged both on the casing side facing the valve seat and on the side remote therefrom. As a result, such a valve casing can be used, as required, as either a closing or opening valve with the valve seat position remaining unchanged.
The present invention aims to provide a valve casing of the aforementioned type, which can be produced by forging and whose inner portion only has to undergo limited machining.
According to the invention, there is provided a valve casing in one piece with two aligned connecting channels, two spaces each connected with a respective one of the two connecting channels and a partition located between the two spaces on the longitudinal axis of the connecting channels and which carries a valve seat, the two spaces being closable by respective covers fitted to the valve casing coaxially with respect to the valve seat, wherein the two spaces are constructed in a frustumshaped manner, are staggered eccentrically with respect to the valve seat and to one another and to the connecting channels issuing into them and wherein each space has a respective crescentshaped depression in its base surface in the area into which issues the associated connecting channel.
Despite the inward tapering of the spaces in connection with the forgeability, the eccentricity of the valve casing spaces, together with the crescentshaped depressions make it possible to obtain the necessary flow connection between the particular space and its connecting channel level with the partition.
The machining of the inner portion is limited to drilling the short connecting channels and machining the valve seat area.
Preferably, each depression extends over substantially a semi-circular arc, its base from the centre to the ends of the arc rising to the bottom of the associated space. In the centre of the arc, each depression desirably extends over the entire diameter of the associated connecting channel.
The invention will now be further described, by way of example, with reference to the drawings, in which Figure lisa longitudinal section through one embodiment of a valve casing according to the invention shown as a forging blank; Figure 2 is a plan view of the forging blank shown in Figure 1; and Figure 3 shows the finally machined valve casing with covers and closure member.
The forging blank (Figures 1, 2) of the valve casing 1 has two aligned connecting ends 2,3 and two spaces 4, 5. Between the latter a partition 6 is located on the longitudinal axis of the two connecting ends 2, 3. The partition 6 contains a through-flow bore 7 with a valve seat 8 (Figure 3). The two spaces 4, 5 can be closed by means of a closure cover 9 or a bearing cover 10 through which is passed in pressure-tight manner the valve spindle 11 of a valve closure member 12. The two covers 9, 10 are arranged coaxially with respect to the valve seat 8.
The two spaces 4,5 of the valve casing 1 have a frustum shape and open out towards the open end thereof. In addition, they are both eccentrically staggered with respect to the valve seat 8. There is also an eccentric displacement of the two spaces 4, 5, in ach case towards the connecting end 2,3 associated therewith. In the vicinity of the particular connecting end 2, 3 each space 4, 5 has in its base area a crescent-shaped depression 13, 14 extending in each case over a semi-circular arc (Figure 2) and the base thereof from the centre to the ends of the arc rises to the bottom of the associated space 4 or 5 formed by the partition 6. The dotted base lines 15, 16 make this clear (Figure 1).
The necessary connecting channels 17, 18 are drilled in alignment with one another at the connecting ends 2,3 in the forging blank. The depressions 13, 14 in the centre of the are extend over the entire diameter of the particular connecting channels 17, 18 (Figure 3) upwards and/or downwards. Each space 4, 5 is connected by its depression 13 or 14 with the associated connecting channel 17 or 18.
This leads to a particularly flat valve casing 1, which can easily be produced as a forging and which also requiresony limited machining of the inner portion of the casing, namely the drilling of the short aligned connecting channels and the formation of the valve seat area.
