Abstract
209,246. Parker, A. Nov. 16, 1922. Chimney tops.-Relates to chimney tops of the kind in which a funnelshaped dirt-collecting member d is secured within a conical outer casing a<2> provided with a vertical outlet tube c depending into the member d. According to the invention, the space f between the parts a<2>, d is of such size that the gases in their upward travel are maintained at a constant pressure or rate of flow. The outlet tube c is arranged to provide between itself and the upper wall a<5> of the outer casing a relatively large expansion space from which the gases are deflected downwardly into the member d and escape up the tube c. In the modification shown in Fig. 4, the lower edge of the tube c carries a projecting ring of vertical channels h having V-shaped upper ends h<2> the adjacent sides of which form apices i at the divisions between the channels. The channels h may be tubular instead of open as shown. Specification 191,251 is referred to.
