Abstract

The game comprises a plurality of cards which are preferably rectangular. Each card carries part of words adjacent edge portions so that words can be formulated by arranging adjacent edge portions of respective cards side by side. The cards preferably have halves of words at the respective sides and ends. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Card games This invention relates to card games, and in particular concerns a novel form of card game involving the making up of words by placing the cards in adjacent relationship.
Card games involving the making up of words are of course known, one of which being the game sold under the Registered Trade Mark "LEXICON". Dn this card game, each card is provided with a letter of the alpabet and players arrange individual cards side by side to make up words. The cards can be 3arranged in horizontal orvertical mws and colun-ns, crossword fashion. This game is extremely popular.
The present invention seeks to provide a novel form of word card game involving a different utilisation of lettering arrangement.
In accordance with the present invention, a card garne comprises a pack of playing cards which are or positioning side by side to make up words by virtue of letters being carried on said playing cards, characterised in that parts of words are located adjacert respective edges of the cards, so that by appropriate arrangement of individual cards, different words bridge different adjacent edges of different cards.
The respective parts of the words on any card may be completely separate, and in the preferred case, where the cards are of rectangular shape, there are preferably four word parts adjacent respective ends and sides, these sswrd parts being disconnected and separate and each comprising two letters.
Using such cards, if certain cards are placed with the longer sides adjacent and other cards are arranged end to end with said certain cards, it is possible for individual cards to participate in forming four words, two reading across the pairs of shorter ends which are adjacent and hvo reading across the pairs of longer sides which are adjacent.
Although reference has been made herein to cards which have edges and parts of words adjacent their edges, the cards could of course be round or oval and the same effect achieved.
The invention has particular applicability to the making of four letter words by the positioning of the cards, and to this end each part of a word at each edge region of a card preferably is made up to two letters.
The invention will be more clearly understood if reference is made to the accompanying drawing, which shows in the single figure a plan view of playing cards of a pack of cards according to an embodiment of the invention, said playing cards of rectangular form and being arranged in an array making up a plurality of four letter words which bridge adjacent sides and adjacent ends of the respective cards.
Referring to the drawing, the utility of the cards will be clearly understood. There are shown nine rectangular cards arranged edge to edge in rows of three across the paper and end to end in columns of three vertically of the paper.
As can be seen, each card is provided with four groups of letters, each comprising two letters and the groups are arranged respectively adjacent the ends and sides of the card. The particularembodi- mentofcards described envisages the making up only offour letter words, and therefore of each card, the pair of letters adjacent the left hand side makes up the second half of a four letter word, the pair of letters adjacent the right hand side makes up the first part of cc four fetter word, a pairof letters adjacent the top edge make up, reading c'ownwards, the second half of a four letter word, and finally the pair of letters adjacent the lower edge, again reading downwards, make up the first half of a four letter word. Titus, if one considers the cerre card of the nine shown in the drawing, the pair of letters adjacent the aft hand side are "he", the pair of letters adjacent the right hand side are "irk", the pair of letters adjacent the top edge are "TE", and the pair of letters adjacent the lower edge are "Pl". It can be seen that by the juxtapositioning of the cards illustrated in the drawing, these word pairs make up the words HILL, RING, DATE and PILL.
The cards it will be appreciated, can be of any suitable shape, and will be sold in a packs of suitable number.
The cards can be used for enjoyment or for educational purposes, or both, and in relation to their educational utility, the cards illustrated, in involving only four letter words, will be extremely useful for teaching young children to spell.
The illustrated words formed by the cards are of course English words, but the cards could be produced to form words in any appropriate language.

A card game comprising a pack of playing cards which are for positioning side by side to make up words by virtue of letters being carried on said playing cards, cheracterised in that parts of words are located adjacent respective edges of the cards, so that by appropriate arrangement of individual cards, different words bridge different adjacent edges of different cards.
2. A card game according to claim 1, wherein the respective parts of the words on each card are completely separate.
3. A card game according to claim 2, wherein the cards are of rectangular shape, and there are four word parts adjacent the respective ends and sides, these word parts being disconnected and separate and each comprising two letters.
4. A card game substantially as hereinbefore described, with reference to the accompanying drawings.

SPECIFICATION Card games This invention relates to card games, and in particular concerns a novel form of card game involving the making up of words by placing the cards in adjacent relationship. Card games involving the making up of words are of course known, one of which being the game sold under the Registered Trade Mark "LEXICON". Dn this card game, each card is provided with a letter of the alpabet and players arrange individual cards side by side to make up words. The cards can be 3arranged in horizontal orvertical mws and colun-ns, crossword fashion. This game is extremely popular. The present invention seeks to provide a novel form of word card game involving a different utilisation of lettering arrangement. In accordance with the present invention, a card garne comprises a pack of playing cards which are or positioning side by side to make up words by virtue of letters being carried on said playing cards, characterised in that parts of words are located adjacert respective edges of the cards, so that by appropriate arrangement of individual cards, different words bridge different adjacent edges of different cards. 1. A card game comprising a pack of playing cards which are for positioning side by side to make up words by virtue of letters being carried on said playing cards, cheracterised in that parts of words are located adjacent respective edges of the cards, so that by appropriate arrangement of individual cards, different words bridge different adjacent edges of different cards.
2. A card game according to claim 1, wherein the respective parts of the words on each card are completely separate.
3. A card game according to claim 2, wherein the cards are of rectangular shape, and there are four word parts adjacent the respective ends and sides, these word parts being disconnected and separate and each comprising two letters.
4. A card game substantially as hereinbefore described, with reference to the accompanying drawings.
